Tony Awards Red Carpet

2018 Tony Awards red carpet is always enjoyably unpredictable, and Sunday's was no exception managing an endless parade of celebrities, some of whom might have said more than they should have.

Hollywood's A-list strode down the red carpet for the 2018 Academy Awards on Sunday night. The stars managed to avoid the rain as they headed into the Dolby Theatre for the 70th Tony Award ceremony.

But Seacrest wasn't blameless, either, at one point clearly snubbing a publicist of a major Hollywood star, and it was all caught on camera. Nor was Giuliana Rancic, who did some online sex toy research for the cameras as a public service.

Josh Hutcherson and Dakota Johnson, in particular, got refreshingly frank in their comments – dropping curse words and references to sex toys, and leaving Ryan Seacrest to mop up the mess.

Live from the Beacon Theatre, the 2018 Annual Tony Awards will be televised on CBS Sunday night at 8pm ET/PT. If you don’t want to miss all the excitement, here is how you can watch a live stream of the ceremony online.

The official Tony Awards Live Stream show will be available beginning at 5:30pm ET on Sunday, June 12th, on TonyAwards.com, CBS.com/allaccess, BroadwayHD.com, Nordstrom.com, People.com, EW.com, Telemundo.com and Playbill.com.

The “Live on the Tony Awards Red Carpet Show,” presented by Nordstrom, will begin at 5:30pm ET. Then as the awards show kicks off at 8pm ET, the “Tony Awards Behind-the-Scenes Show,” presented by BroadwayHD, will begin. CBS All Access will offer an outlet for fans to watch the Awards live on their phones, tablets or computers. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up and get a free one-week trial.

Celebrities like Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jessie Mueller, Leslie Odom Jr., Christopher Fitzgerald, Andrew Lloyd Webber and more are expected to attend. The Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play 2018 is an honor presented at the Tony Awards, a ceremony established in 1947 as the Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Theatre, to actors for quality leading roles in a Broadway play. The awards are named after Antoinette Perry, an American actress who died in 1946. Honors in several categories are presented at the ceremony annually by the Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, to "honor the best performances and stage productions of the previous year." Despite the award first being presented in 1947, there were no nominees announced until 1956.

What Time are the Tony Awards 2018?

What Time are the Tony Awards 2018? Far from the eagerly anticipated and globally televised event it is today, the first TonyAwards ceremony took place out of the public eye during an Tonys banquet at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Two hundred seventy people attended the May 16, 1929 dinner in the hotel's Blossom Room; guest tickets cost $5. And there was little suspense when the awards were presented that night, as the recipients had already been announced three months earlier.

That all changed the following year, however, when the Tonys kept the results secret until the ceremony but gave a list in advance to newspapers for publication at 11 p.m. on the night of the Awards.

As the event grew in size, banquets became impractical and the event moved from banquet room to a theater venue beginning with the 16th Oscar ceremony in 1944, held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Since 2001, the Oscar ceremony has been held in Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, just steps from the historic Chinese Theatre.

Tony Awards Live

Tony Awards 2018 Live are here! Panel of style, beauty, and entertainment experts is on duty to bring you live updates and commentary from the star-studded red carpet and awards stage. Stay with us from our 6:30 p.m.

Welcome to 2018, when everyone’s afraid of superintelligent machines taking over the world and no one can run a half-decent live stream.

On Sunday night, ABC streamed the Tony Awards—but only to people who were already paying for cable, and only if they happened to live in one of the eight U.S. cities in which ABC owns and operates a local station. Somehow, despite the tightly restricted audience, ABC’s execution was even worse.

The Tony Awards

The Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre, more commonly known informally as the Tony Award, recognizes achievement in live Broadway theatre. The awards are presented by the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League at an annual ceremony in New York City. The awards are given for Broadway productions and performances, and an award is given for regional theatre. Several discretionary non-competitive awards are also given, including a Special Tony Award, the Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre, and the Isabelle Stevenson Award. The awards are named after Antoinette Perry, co-founder of the American Theatre Wing.

For the specific Tony Awards presented to a Broadway production, awards are given to the author and up to two of the producers free of charge. All other members of the above-the-title producing team are eligible to purchase the physical award. Sums collected are designed to help defray the cost of the Tony Awards ceremony itself. An award cost $400 as of at least 2000, $750 as of at least 2009, and, as of 2013, had been $2,500 "for several years", according to Tony Award Productions.

Tony Awards Nominations 2018

Tony Awards Nominations 2018:  For the purposes of the award, a new play or musical is one that has not previously been produced on Broadway and is not "determined to be 'classic' or in the historical or popular repertoire", as determined by the Administration Committee of the Rules and Regulations). The rule about "classic" productions was instituted by the Tony Award Administration Committee in 2002, and stated (in summary) "A play or musical that is determined ... to be a 'classic' or in the historical or popular repertoire shall not be eligible for an Award in the Best Play or Best Musical Category but may be eligible in that appropriate Best Revival category." Shows transferred from Off-Broadway or the West End are eligible as "new", as are productions based closely on films.

This rule has been the subject of some controversy, as some shows have been ruled ineligible for the "new" category, meaning that their authors did not have a chance to win the important awards of Best Play or Best Musical (or Best Score or Best Book for musicals). On the other hand, some people[who?] feel that allowing plays and musicals that have been frequently produced to be eligible as "new" gives them an unfair advantage, because they will have benefited from additional development time as well as additional familiarity with the Tony voters.

Tony Awards 2018 Time

Tony Awards 2018 time took place on February 22, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles beginning at 08:30 EST. Get the latest news about the 2018 Tony Awards, including nominations, predictions, winners, and red carpet fashion at 70th Antoinette Perry Award for Excellence in Theatre.

A Broadway theatre is defined as having 500 or more seats, among other requirements. While the rules define a Broadway theatre in terms of its size, not its geographical location, the list of Broadway theatres is determined solely by the Tony Awards Administration Committee. As of the 2010–2011 season, the list consisted solely of the 40 theaters located in the vicinity of Times Square in New York City and Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater.
